Collective Souls Holding Space
" Put your heart, mind, and soul into even your smallest acts.
This is the secret of success."
~Swami Sivananda
Collective Souls Holding Space (CSHS) is a not-for-profit 501c3, and our mission is to empower the people in our community. Instead of trying to “fix” major social problems, we engage community members as partners in a process of building skills and nurturing pro-social and sustainable relationships. Collectively we are lifting each other up to our highest potential.
CSHS follows an Ubuntu philosophy. A traditional African philosophy that emphasizes the interconnectedness of all individuals and their mutual responsibilities towards each other and their environment. It is often summarized by the Nguni phrase, “I am because you are, you are because we are.” It is a social consciousness or philosophy that emphasizes the need for mutual respect, kindness, and community.
Ubuntu is a reminder that everything that you do, good or bad, has an effect on your family, friends, and society. We are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; there is a oneness to humanity; we achieve ourselves by sharing ourselves with others and caring for those around us. Our well-being is deeply interconnected with the well-being of others.
We are all part of Collective Souls Holding Space. We have all been through the initiation process when we were born into this world. We need to think twice about the choices we want to make and the kind of impact our actions may have on others. We all have a role to play, and it is of vital importance that our actions inspire others to want to be a part of a positive and sustainable future.
Our vision of living in a healthy community, filled with peace, love and equality for all, has become a sacred mission. Dr. Newton said, “It is not the charge of the part of us, but of the whole; not of one race, but of many; not of one party, but of all; again, not of one, but of all.”
CSHS focuses on building community partnerships. We use the coalition approach working together cooperatively. The most effective role for community coalitions and partnerships in terms of prevention, is to build the capacity of community leaders, to better serve their people. It teaches that our well-being is deeply interconnected with the well-being of others.
