About Us

The mission of Collective Souls Holding Space (CSHS) is to empower the people in our community. Instead of trying to “fix” major social problems, we engage community members as partners in a process of building skills and nurturing positive relationships. Collectively we are lifting each other up to our highest potential. CSHS follows an Ubuntu philosophy. I am, because you are, is how we describe the meaning of Ubuntu. We are all bound together in ways that can be invisible to the eye; there is a oneness to humanity; we achieve ourselves by sharing ourselves with others and caring for those around us. We understand that the universal bond of sharing, is what connects us. Our actions have an impact on others and on society. It speaks to the fact that we are all connected, and that one can only grow and progress through the growth and progression of others. Everyone in society needs to play a part, regardless of how small one may think it is. We all have a role to play, and it is of vital importance that our actions inspire others to want to be a part of a positive and sustainable future. Nelson Mandela once said, “A traveler through a country would stop at a village and he didn’t have to ask for food or for water. Once he stops, the people give him food, entertain him. This is Ubuntu." As a society, looking after one another plays a major role in the success of humanity. When we hold space for other people, we open our hearts, offer unconditional support, and let go of judgement and control. Sometimes we find ourselves holding space for people while they hold space for other people. Desmond Tutu explains that Ubuntu defines us as a society. “We think of ourselves far too frequently as just individuals, separated from one another, whereas you are connected and what you do affects the whole world. When you do well, it spreads out; it is for the whole of humanity." Ubuntu is a reminder that no one is an island, every single thing that you do, good or bad, has an effect on your family, friends, and society. It also reminds us that we need to think twice about the choices we want to make and the kind of impact they may have on others. Our overall goal is to help our community heal, one moment at a time, together. We are all part of Collective Souls Holding Space. We have all been through the initiation process when we were born into this world. As the collective heartbeat of this community, it is our responsibility to hold space for one another. Please join us in making positive, sustainable change.
